We went for sushi at Hiro's last week. I had read and heard many great reports about it, so was looking forward to an extraordinary evening. Here's what I found:
The service was extremely courteous, but choice of drinks/beverages is limited, e.g. no juices; we had a table that was wobbly and my green tea came in a chipped cup; the sushi was indeed fresh, tasty and melted in my mouth, just the right amount of wasabi hidden under the fish and I could have eaten double what I ordered - in fact I'm longing for some right now! It was very attractively presented.
I was really keen to see the craft of expert fish slicing by the reknowned chef, but our meal was prepared by someone rather young and cautious (?). Also do not look into the small kitchen on your way to the washroom ... it's not exactly CIA-like kitchen counters, etc. I felt the ambience could have been more Japanese (e.g. they played soul/jazz type of music).
But good food was what we were after, so all-in-all, it was a delicious meal. Will definitely go back for the sake of my taste buds!
