dinner at Chinese Laundry, Pvd

Went to Chinese Laundry Friday night to celebrate wedding anniversary. Got there 7-ish, and despite it being a teeny tiny place, we got a table right away. (A teeny tiny table near the bar.)

Server was knowledgable and pleasant. We ordered the spicy calamari ($10.50) and the wasabi oysters ($11) There were three TINY, less than an amuse, oysters. Yummy, but tiny. The calimari were more plentiful and yummy. Still, very pricey. Stay away from the apps, spend the money on the sushi.

Sushi was incredible. Server claimed the oh-toro comes from the same supplier as Nobu in NYC. Easily the best toro ever in the time we've lived in RI. (Oshii and Fuygaku in MA still rate higher .) The nigiri price is per piece, not for two pieces as is common in some other places. We had oh-toro (mkt... can't find the receipt), the tazmanian salmon ($3), the unagi ($3) and the yellowtail ($3.50). All incredibly delicious.
We order more toro (sashimi this time) and the menage a trois maki. Don't waste time on the maki either. It wasn't any better than Tokyo, and cost twice as much.

Nice little place, cute bar area upstairs where you can also eat. (It looked more comfortable, actually, to eat upstairs than at the tiny tables.) They also had outside tables, too, but it was a chilly night.

I'd do it as a special night dinner again, and do only sushi.
