More dim sum in Quincy at The China (Wollaston area)

kobuta | Dec 8, 201312:24 PM

The China is a restaurant and sports bar (per their menu) at 681 Hancock St in the Wollaston section of Quincy. Owned by the same folks who own the Golden China in Canton. Opened on Dec 2nd.

Restaurant has more of the feel of a sports bar - long bar starts at the opening and stretches half the length of the restaurant. 8 TV screens available. Their menu seems to be Chinese-American, with a handful of bar standbys like a burger and fries. Restaurant is medium sized and not exactly conducive to a busy dim sum crowd.

Daily dim sum is available before dinner. Items seemed limited, as we never saw more than the 3 carts push by with basically the same stuff, but the dishes were decent sized and pretty good. Har gau (shrimp dumplings), chive dumplings, chicken feet, and the beef offal dishes were all delicious. The steam chicken buns were also quite good. In the ok camp were the steamed pork ribs, sesame shrimp rolls, and the minced beef balls. Quite surprised that I did not see any cheung fun -- not clear whether this was just a slow ramp up to a fuller menu, or if they are keeping it limited. Right now, everything is coming out fresh and hot, probably due to good turnover.

Not much interest in trying out their Chinese American menu, but their dim sum was definitely good enough to warrant a repeat visit.
