I feel compelled to write this because I had a fantastic meal at Devi last night and the place was only half full!
We started with the bhel puri and manchurian cauliflower, both excellent. The cauliflower was perfectly cooked, slightly al dente.
We then had the Okra with tomatoes and onions and the famed lamb kabobs. The lamb was perfection, nicely spiced and the meat was like butter. I think it was the best lamb dish I have had at a restaurant and the Okra was amazing.
We also had the chicken stuffed with lamb, also really good.
Their desserts were actually not as great as their food but that may be because I usually have chocolate desserts which they didn't really offer. We ordered the lemon trio and then they also gave us the mango cheesecake complimentary (service was great BTW). Both were good.
My only minor complaint was that for a restaurant of that caliber they should have more options for wines by the glass.
I was surprised that the place was not full. When Devi closed last year, it was lamented by so many people on this board and in the NYTimes. I'm afraid it will close again. Granted it may have been a fluke that it was only half empty or maybe it gets busier later (we were there until 8) but I urge all of you to go.
