Deep-fried Tripe on Sopes?

Ok, my post below about fruit carts jogged a culinary experience I had a while back in Mexico City that I'm wondering if the hounds here could help me find (and/or duplicate).

I had what was chopped up tribe and potatoes deep-fried and then served on sopes (or maybe it was a gordita - I don't really know the difference between the two ... so apologies in advance).

Is there such a concoction here in LA? If so, what's it called?
