A decent lunch in Augusta, Me.

I did some holiday shopping in Augusta last week and we were at a loss about where to have lunch. Lots of chain restaurants around Augusta. We went into the downtown area and found a place on Water Street (the main drag) called Java Joe's. Pretty darn good, it was. It's a soup and sandwich kind of place, with good coffee (beans are for sale) and the biggest cup of tea I ever had. They use a tea brand called "Honest Tea". Earl Grey was strong and very good. I had a cup of haddock chowder, not hot enough for me, but tasty and not too gloppy. My companion enjoyed her conch chowder. We both had roast beef and brie sandwiches that came with a side of pasta salad. The salad was passable, but the sandwich was very good. Nice rare beef and drippy cheese. We left happier than when we entered.
