Sitting in front of me right now is a takeout Bento box from J-Town. These boxes are made fresh daily by the fishmonger (turn left when you walk in... they are between the bakery and butcher) and contain:
A choice of fish - some fried and some not fried. Today mine is an incredible fried smoky mackerel served with a fried slice of pumpkin. There were a few other choices, black cod, salmon, and sea bass... some fried and some not fried.
A small serving of yummy squid salad. Sweet and tender, almost like a teriyaki but different
A fried homemade fish cake, a small segment of shrimp 'stick' (a long shrimp cake like thing) edemame, green beans...
Beautifully steamed rice with a delightfully sour, crunchy pickled plum in the middle of it.
All for $6.88. If I wanted to spend another .80 cents today, I would have a small bowl of the best miso soup ever - it has root veggies in it and fish too. Amazing broth.
So now you know my secret - please leave one there for me!
