Hello Dallas hounds... my family and I (Wife, 35, myself, 36, and kids 7 and 5) are coming to Dallas for the Cotton Bowl this year. We are total Dallas newbies, having never visited the city before.
Despite the fact that we have kids, all four of us are adventerous eaters, and the kids are very well behaved in restaurants. I'd love some advice on some great, lesser known places to try in the area. We will have a car, so transportation is not a problem and we will be willing to drive for a special experience.
We are open to any kind of food, in any setting.
We are staying at the team hotel (Hyatt downtown.) Places within walking or short driving distance will be much appreciated, but as I said above we will be willing to drive for a great experience.
We are not snobbish about eating in dives or places with great "local" feel. I prefer getting a feel for the "real" side of a community rather than what the Chamber of Commerce wants visitors to do... that's what makes Chowhound so great, isn't it?
So Dallas hounds, lay it on me. Two thirtysomethings with kids in tow need you to make our first trip to Dallas a memorable one!
Oh yeah, we will be in town for 3 nights, starting Dec 31.
Thanks in advance!
