Best Dallas Neigborhood for Coffee & Restaurants- HELP!!!

I'm moving from Los Angeles to the Dallas area. My husband and I are very accustomed to being within a twenty minute walk from our home and good coffee shops and restaurants, not to mention great boutiques. My realtor told me that those types of areas do not exist in Dallas. I also have the unenviable task of merging my urban tastes with those of my Texas raised husband who wants "land, land, and more land." So we have been looking in the White Rock and Lakewood area. I was hoping some savvy Dallas residents could give me some insight into these areas. If I had it my way, the M streets sound fun, but alas, we shortly expect the pitter patter of little feet. So, my husband completely vetoed the thought of living anywhere near the M Streets. So for everyone in the Dallas area who loves really good food (I love ethnic and hip), where would you live assuming price is not a factor. Also, if there are great coffee shops in the area, fantastic. I enjoy walking with my dog and that's why we are focusing on the White Rock area. Also, are there any restaurants and shops within close proximity of the Lake?
