On the Manhattan board there's a long thread entitled 'Grand Sichuan = greatly overrated"
One of the main points was that there are lots of different Chinese cuisines, with not that much in common. SImilarly, different parts of Italy have very different food. Similarly with India. I'm sure it's the same for lots of other countries.
So, my question is why restaurants are labeled and thought of as "Chinese", "Indian", "Italian" or what have you, when those aren't cuisines?
And how can we make people more educated, so they don't insist on ordering Cantonese food in a Sichuan restaurant?
