Costco Kirkland Chocolate Chips

blackpippi | Oct 3, 201211:42 AM     28

Just wanted to let everyone know that Costco (in Dedham Mass.) is carrying their own Kirkland brand of chcolate chips. Cost is $7 for 56 oz. which is about $1.50 per normal 12oz. bag.

Here's the ingredient list: chocolate liquor, sugar, soy lecithin, & vanilla.

I was originally put off by the Chocolate Liquor figuring it was an inferior ingredient. Don't ya know, my favorite chip is Guittard's Extra Dark Chocolate and the ingredient list is identical and the nutritional info is almost the same (give or take a gram of fiber and whatnot).

Tasting plain, the Guittard's seem fractionally more chocolatey to me though my husband was hard pressed to tell a difference. Given that Guittards are $4.50 a bag I think they will be hard to justify.

Unfortunately, I don't have any Toll House on hand for a more relevant taste test for most people.

Haven't baked with them yet, but will post when I do. I don't expect any surprises.
