How are your corn tortillas doing?

Caroline1 | Oct 3, 201407:49 PM     29

Mine are doing just awful! I LOVE home made crispy tacos! Been making them since Pancho Villa showed me how. But over the last few years I've had diminishing success. They'll be crispy enough when I set them to drain, but before I can get enough taco shells fried to start filling them, they "re-soften." I have tried every brand of tortillas in the metroplex, including from about five tortillerias, and they ALL re-soften! Then I realized that several Mexican restaurants in my area no longer fry their own tortillas for crispy tacos, but are now using those damned giant "Fritos" shells like Taco Bell.

So now I'm wondering what is going on? WHY could I fry my own crispy taco shells that STAYED crispy after frying five or six years ago but those days appear to be gone? Now I'm wondering if the Agribusiness goon squad has genetically modified corn to the point that Frito tacos are about as close to old fashioned crispy tacos as I'm going to get?

Any one else having this problem?
