Recent Copenhagen visit

I was in CPH on a brief business trip last week and had 3 opportunities to dine out. Sky bar at AC Bella Sky Hotel, Krogs Fiskerestaurant and Ravage; none of these were my choice, I was taken by colleagues in all cases.

Sky bar had a "tapas" menu on offer, Nordic style of course. There were some excellent dishes, including the scallops, smoked salmon, house cured meats and local "ash" cheese. In total it was 10 plates, price was, IMO, moderate for Copenhagen, the food for the most part was quite good but lacked real "wow" factor. The room itself is somewhat uninspired and the service lack lustre.

Krogs Fiskerestaurant, out of the way near the Parliament... but mostly because of the metro station construction and the fact the restaurant is hidden down a side street that is flanked by the large green construction wall. The eye catcher on the menu was the seafood platter for two, which was ordered along with a starter of mussels. The mussels we were told were from the north tip of Jutland and that this season the harvest has been exceptional due to the lack of sea ice. The mussels were tender and sweet, could have eaten a ton (almost literally). The seafood platter had oysters, cracked crab claws, lobster and shrimp. Everything was exceptional with the seafood, the shrimps were incredibly fresh and sweet and the oysters very fresh. I would have appreciated a "picker" for the crab claws as my performance was a bit embarrassing, although I got all the meat out. The dinning room is very homey in an old school Nordic way and the service (except for the wine service) very efficient and friendly. I will return here again as the seafood was of such exceptional quality and the price very reasonable for the platter (Euro 45/person).

Ravage, is a Belgian style bistro but with lots of food to make tourists happy, such as burgers, sandwiches and steaks. The atmosphere is very lively with large groups of locals in the dining room and tourists in the bar. The service is very friendly and efficient; although the kitchen has work to do. My starter of 6 oysters were essentially frozen and had to be returned... too long on ice or not fresh? My mussel main course was very plentiful but I got the impression they were not local and they were overcooked. These observations are very specific given my dinner at Krogs Fiskerestaurant the night before and my comparison of the two mussel dishes.
