As much as I hate to remind everyone of my secret cookware source, this little tidbit is too good to keep to myself. I was wandering through Sasmart in Kensington Market today and found - way in the back, in the Museum of Fondue Pots area of the store - a stash of used Browne Halco Themalloy heavy stainless skillets. They're quite blackened but otherwise in great shape. Two sizes: the 8 inch ones are $5 each, the 11 inch ones are $10 each. They're a steal. I bought one of each and only after scrubbing with an SOS pad could I read what the brand name was. Anyway, I may attack them with oven cleaner tomorrow to soften the carbon, then scrub the rest off with SOS.
One of the pans I found was non-stick and it was really bad. But the others are plain stainless inside. I love a great find!
