T. Cooks scores another homerun, PHX

Disclaimer: We were married here almost nine years ago and I have a very fond spot in my heart for The Royal Palms. There's a pervasive feeling of calm well-being on this property that I do not find everywhere else.

Having said that, my lunch today at T.Cooks was another flawless meal. Start to finish, service was gracious, unhurried and professional. With the scary new DUI laws in AZ, DH was our designated driver and drank water while I sampled the brut champagne and we perused the menu. The champagne was flinty dry and delicious. Impossible to have a single glass.

We split an order of Butternut Squash Bisque that was akin to eating liquid velvet. We decided to have the Mediterranean Tapas selection and chose eight of our favorites. Standouts include: sage gnocchi with duck confit, potato-prosciutto croquettes, eggplant-asparagus canneloni w/ herb aioli, cremini croustade, baby back rib on coleslaw and several others I do not recall with clarity. As always, the bread and pesto were knock-outs. Dessert was another item we split. A chocolate-Amaretto mousse atop a dense dark chocolate cake-like disc in a puddle of blood orange coulis had us almost licking the plate. Even the coffee and green tea were excellent (as Illy cafe usually is).

I did not pay the bill and do not know what this cost, but it was worth every penny in both food and memories. As we walked the gorgeous grounds, we promised each other that we will return soon.
