Continuing report on our month in Rome: Hosteria Luce and Casa Bleve

Today we loosely followed a walk through Trastavere in order to have lunch at Hosteria Luce. It was another beautiful day and we enjoyed their lovely outdoor seating. The menu for lunch is very brief with an offering of just two two first courses, two mains, three salads and two desserts. We chose the first, second and dessert option which included water and bread for just euro 15 per person. I started with a warm quinoa and vegetable dish followed by sautéed scamorza with radicchio and speck. My husband started with lasagna followed by roast pork coated with hazelnuts. All of the dishes were spot on and portioned well. We had a dense dark chocolate cake and pineapple and melon "carpaccio" for dessert. The wines by the glass selection was very nice. I would definitely return.

We had dinner tonight at Casa Bleve. It is a beautiful location and only 5 minutes from our apartment in Campo dei Fiori. As we had a full lunch we decided to share the baccala carpaccio. It was good, not mind blowing, but an interesting dish. I had the pici pasta with squid and artichokes and my husband had the fettuccine with guanciale and asparagus. Again both were good but not great. The tarte tatin with creamy custard ice cream was a standout. What made the whole experience worth repeating was the the waitstaff. They were very gracious and helpful, even bringing us dessert wine and little cookies. Another high point was a tour of their wine cellar with a Roman wall dating from around 300 AD. We are planning to return later this month when friends are visiting as it is such a pretty place with well spaced tables, nice linens and mostly Italians in attendance.
