Connal's Pasadena

Decided to try a place that some fellow hounds have mentioned (and said good things about). So off to Connals I went yesterday at lunch (okay my lunch, at 2:30).
Huge menu. All sorts of things. Sandwiches (both hot & cold), burgers, fish, chicken, malts, ice cream, flavored sodas, chili, mexican dishes, etc.
Went with the hot pastrami sandwich (add cheese) $5.64 and an order of Frings (onion rings and fries) $2.49 – well done. Got a small cup of chili & cheese $1.30 (I love chili cheese fries, but since they could not separate the fries and onion rings (?) to put chili and cheese on the fries only, had to go with the side). Then surprise of surprise… they have Red Cream Soda!!! the only other place I remember seeing this was at Flookys (sp?). So of course, I ordered a medium Red Cream Soda $1.59.
Got order – WOW, was that a lot of food! Fries are good – have a slight dusting of salt and/or seasoning salt. The onion rings were very good and flavorful. Not greasy at all. Batter is the type that crisps off when you take a bite. Chili was okay (probably better poured on top of the fries instead of on the side and dipped in) – a little sweet for my tastes.
Pastrami sandwich was really, really good. Nice, flavorful pastrami, some fat, but not to where you could not chew it.
Red Cream Soda – just the way I remember it. So good!!
All in all, I would say that I will definitely go back. And soon. I want to try their burgers!
I have leftovers in my fridge – ½ the sandwich and some onion rings. Total bill $11.93.
Washington Blvd. just east of Hill in Pasadena. 626.794.5018.
