Other than the color (!!!), can/should I make Hazan's carbonara with red wine?

We're doing a house exchange so don't have our usual well-stocked larder. I picked up a box of pasta this afternoon, knowing/thinking that I had all I needed to make carbonara for dinner tonight. Just realized that we have only red wine and neither of us feel like making the trek to get white. Would the taste be too awful if I used red wine? I KNOW the color will be weird. Any thoughts? TIA.
