The cherries are wonderful as always. This is the last week for the apricots. The Santa Rosa plums are just in and, IMO, they are not there yet. They are not the usual wonderfulness of juice with the skin barely containing the juicy flesh so that you almost need to eat them bent over the sink.

So this is probably the last week to score the Olson tri-fecta at the same time ... C.J. Olson Bing cherries, Blenheim apricots and Santa Rosa plums

They have expanded their other stone fruits to include a lot of local farms which are often identified. There was an amazing black velvet apricot deeply purple as a Santa Rosa plum with a truly velvety skin. The inside was like honey apricot jam. Lovely.

I've had donut peaches before ... which don't seem like much, but Olson had donut nectarines. These were very flavorful and delicious.

They are super-generous with the samples with a bowl next to each fruit ... to my regret since I bought a lot more than I intended after hitting the samples. The Olsons said if you don't see a sample, just ask.

The dried sour cherries are amazing. They have a wonderful spiciness to them. Almost everthing now has sampling. The cherry catsup tasted surprisingly like a good tomato catsup. There were some delicious-looking natural marchiano cherries that weren't the usual unnatural red, but dark like a bing.

Just over the cherry catsup / jam / condiment samples is a lovely picture of Debra Olsen with Julia Child in the Olson orchard and a letter from Julia Child next to it.

Olson also had a nice melon selection and the samples were delicious.

I so like the direction the current generation of Olsons, especially Debra, have taken the stand. They haven't abandoned their roots while providing a place to get prime fruit from local farmers. When Debra started selling produce other than their own a few years ago, it annoyed me ... I could get this stuff in any market. That is no longer true. Everything is prime-time farmers market quality and it is available all day, seven days a week.

It hasn't lost its charm. There is still the back room filled with pails of just-picked fruit where workers sort through them so that what is available fresh is the best of the best.
