City Thai: what's the attraction?

Will Owen | Oct 5, 2004 01:50 PM

Three of us were hungry on Fair Oaks Saturday, and vaguely remembered having seen City Thai's being spoken of favorably somewhere, so we gave it a try. Well, the food was edible and not too expensive, but BOOOOOORING! Chicken coconut soup, served in one of those terminally annoying hotpot thingies, lacked any sign of the promised lime leaf, galangal, or indeed any flavor at all (salt helped some). The green curry was actually kind of purplish-grey, and similarly flavorless. The Pad Thai at least was yummy, but gummy. And the service was downright apathetic.

Was this a bad night? There are so many really decent Thai places in Pasadena that I can't understand how these guys can even pay their rent.
