Chromatic Coffee Co. in Santa Clara

Melanie Wong | Sep 19, 201411:07 AM     8

Before yesterday's meeting at SCU, I had a few minutes to check out Chromatic Coffee Co. recommended by poser and ssfire. It's just off the Lawrence Expressway and Hwy 280.

I was set on a kouign amann and my heart fell when I saw none in the display case. But I asked and the staffer said that they keep them hidden behind the other pastries. Whew!

Deciding which coffee to try turned out to be harder. So I explained that this was my first time and asked the counter gal to pick something less acidic for me that exemplifies the roasting style here. She recommended Rosalio Ventura from Honduras.

I took my mug of hand poured coffee and KA to a table outside. The light roast coffee had a lovely floral fragrance. On the palate, this was notably fruity with a toffee/mocha aftertaste. It was a bit more tart than I prefer, and a spot of cream rounded out the twinge. It was a shame that I had to gulp and run, as this is the type of cup to savor.
