Menu plus $5.00 specials, tax included and all day!
I’m going back tomorrow
This is a bar with a room in the back, (the rooms in the back are washrooms) quite nice renovations. ( economical, servicable). It is a neighbourhood place -three very unchi-chi white people were drinking and they were solo. (A dive bar.) They have a menu plus a number of $5.00 specials, tax included and all day. I had the jerk chicken special in the traditional small square styrofoam container and it was very good. (Everything comes in pure white styro). A leg and a cut-up back on a bed of rice. I asked for coleslaw, but they gave me fusilli salad with some bits of coleslaw in it. My box was really good, every part of it. The best that I have had, head and shoulders above the others. I do admit that I haven’t had all that many over the years because none of them, including reputedly great ones, had evoked the desire to return unless I was stuck for a fast, cheap, takeout lunch.
The cooks are mother and daughter, the mother is the owner. They are talented. I would trust them in other styles of cooking. Moist chicken, sophisticated and controlled spicing. No grease, rice nicely cooked a bit firm. Even the fusilli salad was delicious and pasta salads are usually chores for me; a sump for cooking sins.
The $5 specials are Jerk chicken, Chicken curry, Stewed chicken and a daily Soup. Makes MickeyD look stupid.
But look, white men can't jerk, so someone else comment please, who understands this cuisine.
P.S. I went back the next day. The food was again excellent, but I wasn't giddy from the first time. The text in the bracket is the result of mature reflection. Note: Imported beer $5 including tax, Domestic beer $4. including tax.
