some cravings and curiosities:

What do folks recommend for Japanese cooking - not sushi, but cooked dishes, like fried fish, burdock root salad, ramen etc....

What are your favorite French patisseries? Bonus: please tell me of a place that makes cannelles (I think they're a Bordeaux speciality, not super common even in Paris).

What's the word on Metro near Porter Sq.? Looked like a French bistro/brasserie when I passed by in a car. I didn't get any details. Is it any good?

I've noticed a number of Teochow/Chow Chiu/Chaozhou places in Chinatown. But none of them seem to make braised goose, as least on the official menus posted outside. Have I missed a place that does? Or is this dish served but off them menu? Does any place serve such a dish?

Any places that I should absolutely avoid in the North End?
