With Dumpling 10053 moving to Monterey Park and adopting the new name of Fortune Dumpling, the old space at 10053 Valley has been quickly filled by Chopsticks Kitchen. When I saw the name I thought perhaps it would be an Americanized restaurant, but this is in fact authentic, Taiwanese to be precise. Many of your Taiwanese favorites are on the menu including Taiwanese sausage, pork chop rice, three cups chicken, plus two varieties of "smely" tofu. Also in an apparent salute to Dumpling 10053, there is a dumpling section on the menu. But this is more than humoring uninformed patrons still looking for Dumpling 10053 (see below). They seem to take the dumplings quite seriously, offering a scallop and pork variety I don't recall seeing anywhere else. Also my cod dumplings came with a colorful bi-color wrapper.
For those interested in such peripheral things, there also remain the physical remnants of the two previous occupants of that location. The awning as well as the signage on the back side of the building still carry the reference to Mandarin House which was located there from the mid-1990s until Dumpling 10053 opened about 10 years ago. And the shopping center's main sign board along the street still lists Dumpling 10053 at the top.
