This place, called China Cafe, is right next to the Tibetan place on Holland (across the street, more or less, from Sabur Restaurant). It just opened last week.
I went in yesterday. It is a little odd but interesting. The focus seems to be juice and bubble tea, with a selection of hot teas. No real place to sit, which is a problem. But for me the best part is Chinese pastry, which I love. There was not a lot in the display case but the woman there said she would get more of whatever seemed to be in demand. As I entered at the end of the day, they started foisting as much as they could on me, which was kinda funny. Two coconut pastries, one egg custard pie (those little ones), AND a cup of coconut gelatin. They charged me $3, which was pretty much one dollar per item with the extra coconut pastry thrown in free.
I asked if they made anything in the store and she said she had made the gelatin but the rest she had brought from Chinatown. I was a little skeptical that any of the pastries would be in good shape after transport and at 7 PM as opposed to 7 AM, but damn if they weren't some of the best I've had. Fresh and tender and yummy. So thumbs up on the Chinese pastry!!!
It's worth checking out and they are eager to make new friends. Open 10-8 most days.
