Chinatown Walnuts

Steven Stern | Mar 2, 2000 05:30 PM

Kam Kuo, the great all-purpose Chinatown grocery (Mott St. near Bowery), has recently installed a bunch of self-service bins filled with various goodies sold by the pound. Wacky-looking individually wrapped candies, cheap dried fruit (some nice-looking persimmon), roasted melon seeds, etc. What really rocked my world, though, were the candied walnuts. Fresh, crunchy, not too sweet, and with an amazingly full walnutty flavor. I can't stop eating them. They're $6 a pound, so go crazy, comrades.
