The change in the weather had me suffering from a nasty bout of congestion. I was hungry but nothing really appealed to me. My co-worker took me to Saigon Pho House on 47th and El Cajon.
I'm sure San Diego Chowhounds are very familiar with this institution. What would we do without it? So, it bears repeating.
I had a huge bowl of steaming yellow chicken curry with noodles. It was absolutely better than any medicine, cleared that head right up.
It was quite spicy, with generous chunks of chicken and of course the usual condiments on the side...cilantro, bean sprouts, lime and onions. The lime was just the right touch and I didn't have to add any chiles. It was heaven. I could only manage to eat half of it and took the other half home. I ate it for dinner and it was every bit as good as lunch.
My friend had noodles with shrimp (large ones and plenty of them) and scallops. He ate it ALL and raved.
There is no ambience to speak of, more like a barn but clean and it smells great.
The menu is ultra extensive, serving more than a hundred noodle and rice dishes. I had difficulty choosing. The service was prompt and pleasant and the price was certainly right, $16 for two, including tip.
Had I felt better, I would have returned today.
Great to remember for these cold evenings coming up.
