Surprisingly one of the rarely found items in authentic Chinese restaurants in the US is chicken dumplings, Most Chinese restaurant chicken dumplings are found at Americanized Chinese restaurants and are either not very good or are store bought frozen. And while chicken dumplings do show up occasionally at authentic Chinese restaurants, they're often not very good. Consequently I was happy to be able to stumble across the chicken dumplings at Chi Dumpling, which recently replaced C&L Dumpling. Plump juicy dumplings with a thick wrapper, only $3 for an order of eight. Not as good as the chicken dumplings at Golden Wok in San Antonio (made of chopped up white meat), but better than anything you can get currently in Los Angeles.
Also I was curious about two closed restaurants on Chrystie. Chi Dumpling is at 77 Chrystie, and both First House Garden (81) and 85 f.k.a. Yogee (85) were closed today. First House Garden looked like they could be closed just for the day (though Thursday would be an odd day off). 85 Restaurant looked more ominous with a hand drawn "Sorry Closed" sign in the window.
