I'm back in old New Orleans to stay since Friday evening, and my first pilgrimage was to Central Grocery for Saturday lunch. I whizzed in and bought two muffs, and spent another $100 on good looking things to eat (among them Manchego, Caciocavallo, oilve salad, and a pile of sliced hard, dry salami)in about 15 minutes. I've always felt that the Central grocery version was the definitive muff and these muffs were as good as ever, but mine was hand made with extra prosciutto and mortadello.
We're doing Lola's tonight. I promise a report.
I'm on vacation this week and on partially paid leave for the next 8 months, and so since I'll be home cooking lunch and supper, we won't be eating out as much as we have in the past. Of course, Flaming Torch is only about 3 blocks away, on the way to P.J.'s, with Taqueria Corona, Martinique and Reginelli's about the same, and we'll no doubt dine in one or another of those places nearly every week.
And of course, Brigtsen's and Lola's remain our favorites.
Last week Frank made a reservation for dinner at Brigtsen's on Friday the 30th. That's the second night at Brigtsen's.
