For anyone with a day to spare in Rome I would recommend a visit to the town of Nettuno. Get a copy of Fred Plotkin's book and follow his advice. Take the train to Nettuno and walk to the American cemetery where soldiers killed in the Allied landings are buried. (There is also a British cemetery nearby) Then walk back to the town of Nettuno, check out the old part of town through the gates by the sea, and return to have a fantastic seafood feast at Trattoria Il Rodo on the main street. They are closed one day of the week so check before you go. The restaurant is very plain, plastic flowers and all, and no one speaks English but that is part of the charm. Very inexpensive, too. Then walk a block or to back to the train and in an hour you will be back in Rome.
