The Castaway on the Causeway

I heard some disappointing news from a co-worker today regarding The Castaway on Courtney Campbell causeway between Tampa and Clearwater. They had reservations for a 50th-birthday party, and weren't very happy with their experience.

Evidently, the fare is all a la carte these days, and the least expensive entree is in the $18 range. A mahi-mahi meal of about 3-4 ounces (her description, I don't know) fetched $19 plus add-ons for sides and salad. When a nearby diner expressed surprise to their waiter at the a la carte changes, he said he'd been there 3 years and the menu hadn't changed in that time. I can't remember for certain, but it seems to me when we were there a couple of months ago, your entree did have some sides with it.

I love the view there, but the service was never top of the line, and if they've gone piecemeal with their food, I'm thinking maybe they've seen the last of us! I do like their Sunday brunch, but we evidently don't have the "right look", because the two times we've been there (despite requests), we've been seated at the very furthest distance from the buffet line.

Now I'm griped about this possible change in venue. Does anyone else know any more about it? Maybe I'll have to sample Landry's again. hmpf
