A lot of smaller Chinese restaurants require cash only, which can be annoying if you have a group of people. Consequently it was refreshing to see Apus Cafe in San Mateo offer a discount (I believe 10%) to customers who pay in cash. (Strange that a credit card fee is illegal, but a cash discount is not.) Apus Cafe is a Hong Kong style cafe, which is something we see almost on every block in the San Gabriel Valley, but much less frequently in the Bay Area. Crab cakes are excellent--think they're made with imitation crab, though. Apus Cafe is at 2450 S. El Camino Real, around the corner from Spicy Empire.
