Living in San Francisco one always wants to avoid Fisherman's Wharf. Wrong. Last week I visited the area with some friends from out of town and walked into one of the best well-stocked wine store I have ever seen. I travel a lot and drink a lot of wine and have never seen a selection like the one at the Cannery. These guys are friendly and have a great knowledge as well. Moreover, my husband is a big single malt whiskey lover and he could not believe his eyes when one of the employees suggested a visit to the "whiskey wall" AMAZING. Over 500 whiskies!
We purchased a case of wine and a six-pack of Single Malts, and our friends each purchased one which the Cannery shipped to their place in Colorado. My friends told me that the wine arrived the next day, while they were still in SF. Talking about service! When you visit make sure to ask for either Frank or Suzanne. Frank has a knowledge bar-none when it comes to small local wineries. We picked up some Page, Peacock and DuMol and I am glad we did! Suzanne helped my husband with his whiskey purchase and she talked up a storm. When we left we all said that we got a real education. So for those of you who think that Fisherman's Wharf is for the tourists, think again! On a scale from 1 to 10, they get an 11!
