Candied lemon peel or citron?

pistachio peas | Dec 18, 2013 05:11 PM

I want to make lebkuchen and I need candied lemon peel or citron. Does anyone know a good place to buy some? I'd prefer something a bit higher end than the fluorescent packs of candied fruit for fruitcake. I looked at Rainbow in Uptown (nothing, but I wasn't hopeful) and at Whole Foods on Excelsior (no luck). I basically want the King Arthur kind without having to order online. Any ideas?

Also: when I was at Whole Foods and asked a clerk to help me find it, she made a few calls to different departments and while we were waiting, she was trying to convince me that I should make it "with fresh fruit." "I bet some fresh fruit would be great." Ugh. It was totally condescending while also clueless. Annoying.
