ok, I grew up on this stuff but hadn't visited the cuisine in a while. Well, last Friday, my older sis arranged a family get-together at New Paradise in Long Beach (1350 E. Anaheim) and oh.my.god--the food was incredible! Not one stinker--and we must have ordered at least 15 different dishes! My favorite though, and I couldn't get enough of it, was an appetizerish item listed on the menu as simply "beef sticks." The dish comes with four beef sates (nothing like those Thai ones though) with a side of papaya salad. The meat was indescribable--very tender, sweet, lemon grassy, curry tinged, smokey, and the papaya salad was such a perfect complement. Our entire party of 20+ went insane for these beef sticks and kept ordering more and more. I will go into details about the rest of the menu later, but just wanted to encourage everyone to run out NOW and try these. Get your own order b/c you're not going to want to share!
Also, if you're curious about Cambodian dancing at all, the live band is a blast as are the older folks groovin' to their pre-war funky days.
