Do servers -- waiters, waitresses, waitpeople -- like it when you use their first name?
My dad has to ask every server what their name is.
"Water for the whole table and, oh, what's your name."
"Peg, how's the spaghetti and meatballs? Prepared with a red sauce? That sounds great Peg, I'll try it?"
"Peg, Peg, can I have another iced tea? And my wife would like some extra napkins, Peg."
It drives me crazy.
I can sort of feel the server cringe with their whole body every time he does it.
What's the deal? Is it cool to call servers by their name? Do I just have a problem with it because my dad is trying to be cool and even though I'm 43 and he's 66 he can still never be cool?
(FWIW - My grandpa used to refer to all waitpeople as "Captain." Or was it "colonel?"
