Last Call ! Vietnamese chowdown lunch in San Jose on Sat 9/27

Han Lukito | Sep 23, 200308:33 PM

The chowdown date is only one week away and there are a few more seats left ! This will be held in San Jose/Milpitas area. I suggest the SF hounds to explore this culinary region - come and join us !

This is a wonderful opportunity to taste many different authentic Vietnamese dishes that are quite unusual and unique. Also, a chance to explore Vietnam town !

I have two candidates places in mind for this chowdown based on the inputs of the hounds and also trying them out myself. One is MINH restaurant in Milpitas which is very nice. It has nice linen table cloths and several round tables good for sharing. This place has many excellent unusual authentic dishes that were just delicious. The amazing grilled boneless fish (Bun Cha Cha) served with dill, mint leaves, crackers, rice noodles and a shrimp based sauce is just one example. It's just an excellent place to enjoy a chowdown.

I have also found another good restaurant that will please any chowhound. It is located inside the clean and nice looking Grand Century Mall in San Jose which I think is the epicenter of Vietnam town. I have tried it today and it was very good. I had the BUN CHA CHA which is grilled boneless cubed fish that is outstanding. I think it is on par with MINH restaurant in Milpitas but definitely cheaper. I also had good Vietnamese eggrolls and another dish of a very unique looking chowfun (not the usual type of wide noodle). This place is surrounded by a good number of small Vietnamese stalls that reminds me of the hawker center in Asia that we can also try. There are many Vietnamese food places in this area that will delight any hounds, ready to be explored !

The restaurant is not too big and not as nice looking as MINH, it has the typical looking Vietnamese pho places but this place offers more than pho which is what makes it so great.

The chowdown is basically an opportunity to sample lots of dishes with your wonderful fellow chowhounds and get to know them also. We usually order many dishes and share them (a la carte).

We might end up going to both places if the group so desires - eat at MINH and then explore the other area afterward.

Send me email as soon as possible to reserve your spot and to get more details. You can send email to
