Cafe Pyrenees in Libertyville

dlpens | Dec 30, 200710:58 AM

My wife and I dined at Cafe Pyrenees in their new (2 years) location on Milwaukee Ave. in Libertyville and we were very pleased with the entire dining experience. Our soup, goat cheese salad and entrees were very tasty and well prepared. My wife's declared that her duck dish was even better than the duck she had at Aigre Doux recently! The dessert was also very refreshing and delicious.

Now for one of the restaurant's best features - the wines. The Cafe is now also a retail wine shop so each wine on the menu is priced for retail and for the dinner. A number of wines are available by the glass in both 2oz and 6oz sizes and the best for last - they offer a number of wine flights starting at $10.00 for 3 samples of Chardonnay, Cabernet, Zinfandel and Syrah wines with the most expensive being $22.00 for three Cabs including a Silver Oak and a Robert Young (retail at $80.00/bottle). We also learned that on Sunday nights there is free corkage.

The restaurant also features numerous wine tastings and wine dinners which we hope to partake of in 2008 starting on January 14.

Finally, the owners were very gracious and the wait staff was very attentive. While some diners in 2006 had negative comments on the food, we were clearly happy with each and every course so if you are in the Libertyville, Gurnee, North suburban area, this would be a nice place to have a very nice wine and meal.
