Buying loose leaf tea on eBay: Report

About a month ago I placed my first-ever eBay order for loose leaf tea from Yunnan, China. (Yunan black teas being my longtime favorites, I consume an inordinate amount and usually buy them online; the prices on eBay were extremely good, so I decided to gove it a shot.) The tea finally arrived last week (I didn't pay for the expedited shipping option, and the kilo of tea I purchased - i.e., over 2 lbs - came to some $42 WITH shipping.)

Results: The tea is very good, clearly fresh, with good color and leaf quality. The leaves are unbroken, golden-colored, there is hardly any dust. The steeped tea (4 minutes) is fragrant, spicy and and honey-sweet, like a good Yunnan should be. I am very happy with the purchase.

The tea took about 4 weeks to arrive and the packaging was extremely basic - ziploc plastic bags - but the quality was as advertised. Note: The seller only sells larger quantities (500g and up, unless you buy their top-quality tea which sells by 100 grams), so I recommend this only if you drink a lot of tea. If not, you're better off buying smaller quantities for higher price from US-based vendors, and won't end up with too much tea getting stale sitting around.

The vendor I used is Yunnansourcing. The info they provide is accurate, with excellent, realistic pictures of the leaves. At these prices the tea is a bargain.
