I grew up in Midwood and every Sunday for a dozen years would stop at Butterbun's Bakery on Nostrand Avenue. I could never get enough of their seven layer cake and eventually they closed and when I tried Leon's Bakery they sold the same seven layer cake and every Sunday I would buy one (until they sold out and the new baker had no clue what a seven layer cake was).

Even my kids would tell me how sick of eating seven layer cake they were but I never gave up looking for a bakery that can match what Butterbun's and Leon's Bakeries produced. I was told there was a bakery on Flatbush Avenue but it turned out they use powdered milk or powdered eggs (whatever they use it is not the same). I have traveled through all 5 boroughs of New York to Europe, the Netherlands and cannot find that seven layer cake. I have even nagged bakers (like LULU's Bakery - Union Turnpike, Fresh Meadows) to try and make it. I think if enough people request Butterbun German seven layer cake (buttercream) they may decide it is popular enough to produce.

Any Suggestions on where I might locate a Buttercream seven layer cake? Does anyone have Butterbun's 7 layer cake recipe?
