Reality check here: our first experience here (within a week of its opening) was fabulous, but tonight's was very chastening. What looked like a pretty good value has quickly devolved into a swindle.
The lovely figs-in-honey appetizer portion has shrunk by about 80%.
Worse, so have the panini: the gorgeous overstuffed pressed creation on Italian sandwich bread of a couple of weeks back is now two meager slices of plain bread barely filled for your $9: criminal.
Cassoulet featured severely undercooked beans, though the meats (goose, smoked ham, homemade sausage, duck fat) were extraordinary.
I must say the prospect of hanging out here regularly is singularly less attractive after the second visit. Maybe they looked at the early food costs and went, "Whoa!", but I think they've swung the pendulum too far the other way.
The atmosphere here is lovely and the service very accommodating and friendly, but even a late gracious gesture from the kitchen (a complimentary pate de foie gras appetizer sent over at the last minute) was not enough to ameliorate the distinct feeling we left with: of having been let down and ripped off.
Maybe they think they can survive on the custom of people with more money than sense, but I hope they find a better balance.
