I went to lunch last week at Burger Baby, located in the old Mayor Mike's on Asylum. It is yet another gourmet burger place in the area. Beef burgers come in 5 or 7 ounce sizes, which I find nice to have the option for a non-monster sized burger. A standard burger comes with their house sauce (think Russian dressing but tastier), lettuce, and tomato. There are all sorts of add-ons for extra money and a large list of specialty burgers, both beef and other meats (lamb, turkey, tuna, house made veggie burger).
The burger was juicy and cooked as specified, the house sauce was very nice and better than expected, and the brioche bun the burgers are served on are pretty great. We also ordered their standard house fries (comes with parmesan "foam") and their duck fat fries. The fries don't taste like anything special, certainly not like hand cut fries. The duck fat ones were ever so slightly more rich than the standard but certainly not worth the upcharge. Why is it that all of these burger joints popping up (Plan B, Burger Baby) don't have awesome fries? Someone needs to pair a great burger with phenomenal hand cut fries in Hartford. But I digress...The parmesan "foam" was very nice but more like an airy cheese dipping sauce than a foam. The portion of fries are also somewhat small. We ordered them to share at the table and I could have easily eaten an order to myself, and I am not a huge fry eater.
Bottom line: would I go back? Sure. However, it isn't *that* special where I would say other burger places in the area should be worried.
