Three weeks ago I stopped at Bud's Jolly Kone in Red Bluff for a quick lunch. I was on my way to Redding but opted to stop ahead of my destination because I could not be certain of what restaurants might be open there.

The item that caught my eye on the fast food menu was the seasonal fresh peach milkshake. Though made with soft-serve rather than ice cream, the shake was very, well, peachy, with soft bits of ripe fruit. On Tuesdays and Wednesday, a 50ยข burger is available with any purchase. I tried one of those with cheese and can't really recommend it. But if you're headed along the I-5 during peach season, definitely stop here.

Bud's is about a mile from the freeway. It has tables outside. But on this blistering day, the air-conditioned dining room where i was joined by CalFire crews was heaven. Tidy bathrooms too.
