Brunch at Elmo (Chelsea)

piccola | Jul 30, 200611:28 PM     4

So I figured that after a year of cheap Sunday brunches all over town, I should probably start reporting about them...

Today, went to Elmo, a cute albeit very loud restaurant/lounge in Chelsea. Chose it because it's group-friendly, but by some weird twist of fate, we ended up being a party of two. There was no wait.

My friend ordered a cheddar-avocado omelet that came with a side of homefries and toast. The omelet was fab: just done, generously stuffed, though the cheese could have been more melted. The homefries were a little soft.

I had the tropical fruit salad with cottage cheese, thinking it would be a huge diner-style plate. Not so. I had maybe 3/4 cup of fruit, mostly watermelon, and a small condiment cup of cheese. It should have been on the sides menu, not the entrée menu.

Service was great - attentive, but not overly present. Coffee is decent, but doesn't really stand out. Food came quickly, not even 10 minutes after we ordered. With tax and tip, less than $25 for two.

Overall, I liked it. It's a fun place, and the food is good (if not exactly abundant). And the wait staff is total eye candy - though I doubt they're into my gender. ;-)
