Campanile is one of my favorite restaurants. It is also one of my favorite bars to eat at. The negative posts about it on these boards continue to baffle me but, well, tastes differ I suppose.
For the last five years or so my husband and I have had a joke about "Next Door Campanile," my fantasy expansion into the antique store next door. Next Door Campanile would have a bar menu and a simple grilled cheese every night of the week but you would be able to order off the regular menu as well. They might also expand into raw bar, if we were very very good.
After a perfectly decent meal at the newly expanded Ammo, which cost more than it needed to, we stopped by Campanile to have a drink, dessert, and to check out the renovations.
My friends, "Next Door Campanile" has arrived!
The primary physical changes were to the bar area, with a newly poured cement bar and a permanent sandwich station as well as some industrial ventilation over the grills. Hurrah!
A simple bar menu included a grilled cheese sandwich, a plate of hama hama oyster, a warm bowl of polenta and something, and a few other items. Terrific.
Also, the cheesecake discussed in the current Best of LA/LA Weekly is currently on the menu.
