Breakfast at The Original Pantry

Hello Hounds ~

So! Tomorrow morning I'll be heading out to downtown to kick start my day with a thousand milligrams of sumptuous, sizzling cholesterol - yes, it's time for breakfast at The Original Pantry!

That said, I am - I will confess - a Pantry virgin. Tomorrow's breakfast will mark my first foray into this venerable greasy spoon. I've read reviews both good and bad, but it seems most people agree that the Pantry serves up reliable "classic" American breakfast fare.

I'm told the buckwheat pancakes and sourdough toast are hard to beat, but I'd like a few more opinions. If I go with an egg dish, should I opt for ham, bacon, or sausage? I usually prefer bacon, but if the sausage or ham is especially good here, I could be tempted to stray.
As for their much ballyhooed pancakes - buckwheat or buttermilk? Do they do French toast? Any good?

Any hidden gems on the menu? Any insider secrets to ordering (like the off-the-menu items at In&Out)?
