Breakfast at Hoffman's Bakery Santa Cruz

Judith Hurley | Dec 27, 200304:12 PM

Yesterday we headed over the hill for some post-Christmas non-mall shopping. On our son's recommendation, we had breakfast at Hoffman's bakery in Santa Cruz. Definitely one of the better breakfasts. We had frittata. Mine was vegetarian made with egg whites, loaded with fresh zucchini, mushrooms and asparagus. My husband's was crab, whole egg, delicious. Both were topped with fresh tomatoes and abundant grated parmesan, accompanied by home fries.

Bread choices were scones, croissants, toast. I had the whole-wheat date scone. Very tasty, as was the sample cinnamon crisp at the bakery counter. Lots of butter here, including for frying.

Service was prompt and pleasant, food arrived hot, coffee cups were refilled regularly. The place is casual and comfortable, not at all greasy spoon, more like a Good Earth. The pastries at the bakery counter looked sensational, and there was a definite marzipan presence, for those of us who think marzipan is a staple food in heaven. My son says Hoffman's good for lunch and dinner too. Definitely worth a stop if you're in Santa Cruz.
