In town this weekend to celebrate my closest friend's very special birthday. I screwed up and didn't start looking around soon enough but managed to get a 5:30 pm (!) table at Sociale. I've read favorable things about it here, but would that be considered special occasion enough for a big night? And by special occasion, I am not motivated by price - it can be funky and off-beat (and thus, maybe a little easier to find a table at a more reasonable hour than 5:30?). The girl works full-time and has two young boys, so I want to treat her to a special night off. They have a sitter 5 pm-11 pm tonight.
If we do end up going to Sociale, where could I take her afterwards for drinks and conversation? I guess I'm picturing some beautiful, historical-ish SF old bar where people can hear each other (she has to listen to enough camping during the day!). But again, I'm open to anything. Thanks to anyone who can help - I'm getting worried about my lack of planning, which is not like me. I'm usually on top of things, food-wise.
