Boqueria Review

guttergourmet | Oct 25, 200602:27 PM

Once I was able to finally snag a stool I sat at the tapas bar which appeared way more comfortable than the tables. Place was jammed (Platt in NY Mag and Time Out just gave favorable reviews and the bartender told me that Bruni had just left) but had a good vibe. I watched the chef in the front window prepare endless plates of Spanish cheeses, chorizo, lomo, salchichon and tomato and garlic rubbed toast topped with jamon serrano as well as applying a hot iron to the crema catalan which made the place smell like s'mores. Had the datils wrapped in bacon stuffed with almond and (though not traditional but great idea)cabrales, the serrano on tomato toast, pimietos de padron which were great, more toast topped with chorizo and fried quail eggs, a wonderful potato/onion tortilla and the gambas al ajillo which were very good although I believe the shrimp may have been rock shrimp. Best tapa was the lamb pinxtos. The crema was great. A couple of glasses of rioja and a glass of sherry. $100. Fun place. Would go back for the entrees.
