boiled seafood & beer near the quarter?

t.mangler | Jul 21, 2003 11:20 PM

hi everyone-

my girlfriend and i are making our 3rd trip to NO this coming weekend, flying in from the northeast. just to let you know where we're "coming from," we like finding places a little off the beaten path -- decor and prestige of a bar/restaurant aren't high on our list, nor are the usual bourbon st trappings.

what we're looking for is a simplistic, no frills bar/restaurant to get some good boiled seafood that's located in or near the quarter, since our only available transportation will be taxis. i wish we had the time to rent a car and drive to a place like the guiding star in new iberia, but....with only 2 days to work with, that ain't gonna happen.

so, can anyone recommend a place in the quarter or nearby that does boiled shrimp/crawfish in a somewhat dive bar setting? (i know crawfish are out of season, but frozen is better than nothing considering that you can't get them at all in the wilds of western PA).

thanks in advance, and if you want to reply via private email, remove the "NO_SPAM" from my address.

thanks in advance!
cheers,
ted
